CompuServe Menus in 1982

written by Matthew Reed

In 1982, CompuServe changed their menu structure to “promote ease of use.” The new menus were grouped under six categories:

  1. Newspapers
  2. Home Services
  3. Business and Financial Services
  4. Personal Computing Services
  5. User Information
  6. Index

Any user could go directly to a page by using the “Go” command. For example, typing “Go HOM-1” would go to the “Home Services” menu page.

Some of the new menus were detailed as part of an article describing the changes in the July/August 1982 issue of the TRS‑80 Microcomputer News. I have reproduced the menus listed in that article as a snapshot of computer history.
